It’s strange that films costing a few hundred million dollars to make often finish in European cinemas with low-grade subtitles – jagged edges more worthy of something you could generate on a little PC than major distributors. After making the effort to encode the film correctly, translate the subtitles really well – why display them looking like a Pacman game circa 1980? It would cost around 20 dollars per copy more to encode them nicely, if you distribute say 600 copies on a territory. A lot perhaps – but in the context of marketing budget for this kind of film? As a consumer, it does make you want to save the 10 bucks and watch at home in HD.
